What development cooperation means for Belgium is the effort to create a world without poverty by working for peace and security, and trying to ensure equal opportunities for all individuals. The country is a serious donor. Year after year, the development aid budget increases, making Belgium one of the most generous countries in Europe But Belgium is not an island. The union of international efforts for sustainable development in a fair world. Belgium's development cooperation is seeking the Millennium Development Goals:
• In 2000, the United Nations pledged to rid the world of
worst hunger and poverty in 2015. This deadline is fast
approaching, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
Every citizen contributes to development cooperation: through your taxes, private initiatives or a donation to a good cause.
But most development cooperation remains little 'visible'. It is administered via the government, it has to prevent hidden disasters tends to be more in-depth work.
This brochure aims to demonstrate how Belgian development cooperation is working to eliminate poverty.
