MFAT Annual Report 2019-2020
Resumo
This report is responsible for the delivery of the Ministry in relation to the 2019 Strategic Intentions- 2023 and for the role it played in the New Zealand government's response to COVID-19 pandemic. The significant resource pivot for this answer, combined with COVID-19 impact on international engagement, has meant the inability to deliver some results as redirected efforts to a new set of priorities.
COVID-19 dominated the Ministry's work in the second half of the year and impacted strongly the team around the world. Throughout the crisis, the Ministry focused on three priorities: keeping our people safe and well abroad and at home; keeping and sustaining the offshore network; and provide advice on critical international, commercial, consular and development activities impacted or important to New Zealand's COVID-19 response.
The Ministry achieved a consular response on an unprecedented scale. this saw the repatriation of over 5,000 New Zealanders by June 30 and consular assistance provided to thousands of other New Zealanders struggling abroad due to COVID-19
