Brazil – FAO Trilateral South-South Cooperation on Food Security and Nutrition
Resumo
In the last two decades, Brazil has reached a level of development thanks to many successful public policies aiming to erradicatehunger, promote , rural development and strengthen family farming, which have made the country a reference in the region, arousing great interest of the international community, particularly in Latin American, the Caribbean and African countries.
Brazilian protagonism draws on the promotion of the right to adequate food, as enshrined in the Constitution, as well as the integrated framework of the National Food and Nutrition Security System (SISAN), known for its intersectoral approach and active participation of civil society.
As a result of this international recognition and the growing demand from developing countries to know the successful Brazilian set of Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) policies, the Brazilian Government, through its Cooperation Agency (ABC), established strategic partnerships with international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of
the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), through its Centre of Excellence against Hunger, to support long-term development of
partner countries by building capacities to design, implement and assess effective, inclusive and sustainable SFN policies and programmes.
This has been the cornerstone of the Brazil-FAO International Cooperation Programme, started in 2008 with the aim of sharing experiences and knowledge of Brazil with countries in the South.
