Resumo
The objective of this book is to provide an up-to-date understanding of the services sector as an engine of growth. Despite the significance of the services sector, it has still not received the attention it deserves from both scholars and policy makers. Recent advances in information technology (IT) and global connectivity have drastically changed how services can be provided and consumed, both within countries and across borders. In addition, technological advances have opened up new areas for service providers. The growth potential for services is very promising and its limits are still unknown. This book therefore constitutes a timely read for all interested in services and services trade. We hope that policy makers and academics alike enjoy the book. Each chapter contains proposals that are highly relevant for policy. Some chapters use econometric analysis to answer a specific research question. However, the authors also provide a nontechnical summary of the main findings at the beginning of each chapter and derive concrete policy proposals.
